KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 26): Malaysia’s e-commerce revenue grew 1.9% to RM937.5 billion in the first nine months of 2025, compared with the same period last year, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).
Business-to-business (B2B) transactions continued to dominate the segment, contributing RM817.1 billion. Business-to-consumer (B2C) transactions rose to RM336.6 billion, followed by business-to-government (B2G) transactions that increased to RM30.4 billion, it said in a statement.
“E-commerce continues to play a pivotal role in stimulating business activity, expanding market opportunities and strengthening Malaysia’s economic competitiveness as the digital landscape evolves," said chief statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin.
Domestic e-commerce income expanded to RM1.05 trillion while international e-commerce income reached RM131.1 billion — reflecting Malaysia’s deepening integration into regional digital trade, DOSM said in a statement.
E-commerce expenditure also rose to RM571.4 billion, supported by both domestic and international transactions.
B2B spending remained the largest component at RM443.4 billion while B2C and B2G expenditure recorded stronger growth, driven by wider adoption of digital procurement systems and e-payment solutions across businesses.
E-commerce and information, communication and technology (ICT) collectively accounted for 23.4% of the economy in 2024, contributing RM451.3 billion — up from RM429.3 billion in 2023.
The statement added that Malaysia is experiencing a major leap in digital transformation, fuelled by steady e-commerce growth, the rising contribution of the ICT industry and increasing ICT usage across businesses, households and individuals.
The rapid expansion of mega-scale data centres, together with the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI), process automation, IoT integration, cloud services and enhanced cybersecurity, continues to strengthen Malaysia’s digital ecosystem — positioning the country on a solid trajectory to become an innovative, inclusive and competitive regional hub for data and technology in the global digital economy.
