KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 24): Berjaya Food Bhd (KL:BJFOOD), operator of the Starbucks coffee chain, said on Monday early signs of recovery are emerging amid ongoing store consolidation efforts, even as the group posted its eighth consecutive quarterly loss.
The group said net loss for its first financial quarter ended Sept 30, 2025 (1QFY2026) narrowed substantially to RM14.79 million from RM33.68 million a year earlier, supported by improved margins from cost-saving initiatives, store rationalisation measures, and lower depreciation following the previous year’s impairments.
Quarterly revenue rose 3.3% to RM128.25 million from RM124.19 million, driven largely by contributions from new overseas operations, said Berjaya Food in a bourse filing.
It noted that Starbucks Malaysia achieved positive same-store sales growth, which contributed to a marginal increase in revenue despite a reduced number of operating outlets during the quarter.
Looking ahead, Berjaya Food said it remains committed to pursuing opportunities in both domestic and international markets while strengthening its core operations to support sustainable long-term growth.
The group added that it will continue to focus on innovation, digitalisation, and enhancing customer engagement across online platforms and in-store experiences to deepen consumer connections.
Beyond Starbucks in Malaysia and Brunei, Berjaya Food also operates the Kenny Rogers Roasters chain locally, as well as the Paris Baguette bakery café brand in Malaysia and the Philippines.
Berjaya Food shares closed down 0.5 sen or 1.9% at 25.5 sen, valuing the group at RM496.65 million. Year to date, the stock has declined 26.1%.
