KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 13): REV Media Group Sdn Bhd, the digital media subsidiary of Media Prima Bhd (KL:MEDIA), has completed the full acquisition of The Vocket Sdn Bhd, bringing the Malay-language lifestyle and culture platform fully under its umbrella.
In a statement on Thursday, the company said it had acquired the remaining 48% equity interest in Vocket, after previously holding a 52% majority stake. Financial details of the latest transaction were not disclosed.
The move comes more than six years after Media Prima first sought control of Vocket. In July 2019, Media Prima announced that its indirect wholly owned unit Rev Asia Holdings Sdn Bhd would proceed with buying a 52% stake in Vocket for RM2.6 million, following an earlier legal hiccup that led to the termination of the initial June 2018 agreement.
At the time, the group said the acquisition would support its digital transformation plan by expanding its reach in the fast-growing Malay digital news segment.
REV Media said Vocket had recorded growth across readership and engagement metrics between 2024 and 2025, with 1.4 million unique readers, 68.5 million monthly page views, and over 758,000 followers across social platforms.
Its audience is predominantly male and concentrated within the millennial demographic, with strong traction among readers aged 25-34 and 35-44.
REV Media chief executive officer Samuel Wee said full ownership would allow the group to further scale Vocket’s expansion.
“Vocket has proven its immense potential and strong influence among millennials and the growing Gen Z market,” he said. “With full ownership, we are now poised to accelerate its growth exponentially, and collectively set transformative benchmarks for digital publishing and content to expand our market share further across the nation."
Vocket founder Mohd Fazreen Jasni described the deal as a “new chapter” for the platform, adding that he plans to take a step back to focus on personal pursuits while the brand continues its digital expansion.
"As ‘Viral in Your Pocket’, our mission is to deliver fresh, bold ideas that connect with readers across racial, economic and social backgrounds and I believe we are now positioned to grow stronger than before. This is not just Vocket’s next chapter, it’s the start of a bolder conversation with Malaysia,” he said.
REV Media currently manages over 30 digital brands across Malay, English and Chinese languages, reaching more than 10 million unique monthly users.
