SHAH ALAM (Nov 12): As Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s lawyers do not have any free dates this month and next month, the defamation suit brought by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad against Anwar will only resume in January and February next year, for five days.
The continuation of the trial will be on Jan 13-14, Jan 28-29, and Feb 9, before Judicial Commissioner Datuk Donald Joseph Franklin.
The dates were separately confirmed by Mahathir’s lawyer Rafique Rashid Ali and Anwar’s lawyer Aliff Benjamin Suhaimi.
Last week, Mahathir was cross-examined by Anwar’s lawyers Ranjit Singh, Razlan Hadri Zulkifli, and Aliff.
Mahathir had filed a RM150 million suit against Anwar following Anwar’s statement at a PKR congress in March 2023, where, as the party president, Anwar alleged that Mahathir and his children had amassed wealth, and avoided paying taxes, which Mahathir claims had tarnished his reputation.
Anwar maintains that what he said was the truth.
