KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 11): The Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) said its special task force will complete its investigation within three months into alleged failures in verifying identification documents and following procedures in granting citizenship to seven naturalised Malaysian footballers.
The probe, led by EAIC deputy chairman Datuk Dr Prasad Sandosham Abraham, will examine governance, integrity and compliance issues among enforcement agencies involved in the process, the body said in a statement on Tuesday. It held its first meeting on Tuesday.
EAIC also confirmed the removal of Datuk Seri Yusof Ismail from the taskforce due to a potential conflict of interest linked to his role in the Football Association of Malaysia’s independent investigation committee (IIC).
Other task force members include commissioners Datuk Ong Lam Kiat and Datuk Siti Zainab Omar, as well as senior officers from EAIC’s operations division.
The commission said the investigation will be conducted transparently and independently, following public concern over how several foreign-born players obtained Malaysian citizenship.
Besides the EAIC, FAM has appointed former chief justice Tun Md Raus Sharif as the chairman of an independent committee to investigate documentation issues involving the sanctioned players.
