KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 10): Malaysia spent RM184.4 million to host the recently concluded 47th Asean Summit and related meetings, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said on Monday.

The cost was in line with allocations approved by the Ministry of Finance and followed existing financial governance procedures with optimal cost-saving measures, he said in a written parliamentary reply.

Mohamad was responding to Lim Lip Eng (PH–Kepong), who asked about the cost of organising the summit and the security measures implemented to ensure the safety of all participants.

Malaysia, as Asean chair, hosted the high-profile summit from Oct 26 to 28, which drew global attention and was attended by world leaders, including US President Donald Trump, Brazil President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, China's Premier Li Qiang and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi

Key highlights of the summit included the signing of the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord between Cambodia and Thailand, ending long-standing disputes between the neighbouring countries, and a reciprocal trade agreement between the US and Malaysia, under which Washington committed to maintain tariffs at 19%.

Mohamad said the summit concluded successfully, reflecting Malaysia’s high level of preparedness and coordination with foreign embassies in Kuala Lumpur to meet the logistical, security, and protocol needs of each delegation.

He added that the smooth organisation and positive feedback from participating countries and the international community underscored Malaysia’s capability and standing as an effective host for major international events.
