KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 29): The Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), in collaboration with Master Builders Association Malaysia (MBAM), will implement a new digital tool called the Construction Digital Maturity Index (CDMI) to measure a company’s level of digital integration in construction projects.
In his welcome address at the 27th International Construction Week (ICW) on Wednesday, Minister of Works Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi revealed that the CDMI system is a first for Malaysia.
“CDMI is a framework designed to evaluate and benchmark contractors’ digital readiness. It will enable contractors to assess their company’s level of digital maturity against industry benchmarks,” Alexander explained.
Adding on to Alexander, CIDB chief executive officer Zainora Zainal said during a press conference that the system is still in its early stages, and will need industry players to provide feedback before it is officially implemented.
“Once we have the benchmark, then we can identify and segregate what programmes are needed, and how to help [companies] that are at level zero in terms of incorporating digital tools in construction.”
Zainora said more details of the CDMI system will be announced later.
Meanwhile, Alexander also announced that a memorandum of understanding (MOU) will be inked between CIDB and Lembaga Perumahan dan Hartanah Perak (LPHP), to strengthen sustainable housing and infrastructure development in Perak.
Alexander added that the MOU will entail LPHP leveraging several CIDB tools, including Qlassic, safety guidelines conformance at construction sites (SHASSIC), sustainability in building projects (MyCREST), and infrastructure projects (INFRASTAR).
ICW and BuildXpo 2025 will feature several conferences, exhibitions and competitions, running from Oct 28 to 30, held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre in Kuala Lumpur.
Deputy Minister of Works Ahmad Maslan, who was also present at the event, said, “Last year, there were nine countries involved. This year, we have more — 11 countries are participating, and we have projected to garner about RM700 million in projected sales.”
