
KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 28): Regional private equity firm Creador has appointed former Ekuiti Nasional Bhd (Ekuinas) chief executive officer Datuk Syed Yasir Arafat Syed Abd Kadir as senior adviser to help strengthen its investment presence in Malaysia.
In his new role, Syed Yasir will support Creador in identifying and facilitating strategic investment opportunities in Malaysia, with a particular focus on the healthcare and pharmaceutical, advanced manufacturing, and business-to-business (B2B) services sectors.
“Syed Yasir brings extensive leadership experience and deep industry networks, enhancing Creador’s ability to build long-term partnerships and value creation across its portfolio,” the firm said in a statement on Tuesday.
"He will collaborate closely with Creador’s investment team, contributing sector insights, origination strategies and strategic guidance," it added.
The appointment, Creador said, reflects its continued commitment to deepening engagement with Malaysian industry leaders and driving sustainable growth in the region.
Creador, founded in 2011, is a private equity firm focused on South and Southeast Asia. It invests in growth companies and has raised over US$3 billion (RM12.63 billion) across six funds, deploying capital into 60 companies since inception.
Syed Yasir stepped down from Ekuinas on March 31 after 15 years at the state-owned private equity firm, including nine as chief executive officer. He wass succeeded by senior director of investment Aliff Omar Mohamad Omar, who assumed the role of chief executive officer effective May 23.
During his tenure, Syed Yasir managed RM4 billion in funds and oversaw RM5.6 billion worth of investments in 28 companies. He also spearheaded the creation of Dana Asas, a Bumiputera-focused fund, and introduced private credit as a new investment asset class.
