KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 27): Terengganu has secured RM4.3 billion in committed investments as of September 2025, led by renewable energy projects, underscoring investor confidence in the state’s growing role within the East Coast Economic Region (ECER).

The investments are expected to generate around 1,981 job opportunities, with manufacturing making up 74% of total commitments, followed by tourism at 12%, agriculture at 8% and services at 6%.

A key driver is the RM2.9 billion solar-hybrid project at Tasik Kenyir, a joint venture between TNB Genco Sdn Bhd and Terengganu Inc. The pilot phase was launched in July 2025 with plans for a full commercial rollout.

Realised investments totalled RM1.6 billion, with notable projects including the Kertih Terengganu Industrial Park by Retro Court Sdn Bhd and a three-star hotel development by GEM Island Resort Sdn Bhd.

“This remarkable performance reflects the confidence investors have in Terengganu and our commitment to fostering a resilient, forward-looking economy.

“From renewable energy and manufacturing to tourism and agriculture, we are building a diverse economic base that ensures sustainable growth and lasting benefits for the people of Terengganu,” said the state Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.

Meanwhile, the SME Complex Phase 1B at Kerteh Biopolymer Park (KBP) was completed in July 2025, with the Certificate of Completion of Construction (CCC) expected within the fourth quarter of 2025.

The facility offers semi-detached and detached factory units for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in green technology and biopolymer-related industries.

In Setiu, the IPR-INTAN Bukit Bidong Phase 1 project is progressing steadily across 66 hectares, featuring high-tech fertigation farming of chilli, okra, and eggplant.

A total of 140 participants are expected to benefit, with the first commercial harvest expected by the end of 2025 for supply to the wholesale markets and retail outlets.

ECERDC chief executive officer Datuk Baidzawi Che Mat said the council is also upgrading key infrastructure in Kuala Terengganu, such as the Sultan Mahmud Airport–KTCC Executive Drive (KTAR2), which will improve connectivity between the airport and the city centre.

The Promenade KTCC Phase 1 is also being developed within Kuala Terengganu city centre.

The ECER is home to more than 5 million people — encompassing Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and the districts of Mersing and Segamat in Johor — representing approximately 15% of the national population.
