KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 22): Transport Minister Anthony Loke has announced that traffic compounds issued by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) will be standardised starting Jan 1 next year.

A new compound structure based on the principle of “the less you delay, the less you pay” will also be introduced to replace existing traffic summons discount campaigns.

Under the new system, motorists will receive a 50% reduction if payment is made within 15 days, 33% within 30 days, the full amount within 60 days and face court action or blacklisting after 60 days.

A transition period will run from Nov 1 to Dec 30, 2025, during which motorists can settle existing JPJ and PDRM compoundable summonses with a 50% to 70% discount.

“The incentive, however, will not apply to non-compoundable offences such as driving without insurance, expired vehicle licences, or displaying fake licences,” Loke said at a joint press conference with Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail on Wednesday (Oct 22).

The decision to align the compound structures under the Road Transport Act 1987 was made by the Cabinet on Oct 17.

This was done in order to address confusion and perceptions of inconsistency between JPJ and PDRM.

"After Dec 30, 2025, the new system will be fully enforced, and no further discounts will be offered for unpaid summonses," Loke added.

Motorists can check and pay their summonses through the MySIKAP, MyJPJ and MyBayar PDRM applications, or at JPJ and PDRM counters and kiosks nationwide.

Meanwhile, Saifuddin said there are still RM6.6 billion in outstanding traffic summonses, despite the police collecting RM640 million in arrears through discount offers and special campaigns between 2022 and September this year.

He said the Home Ministry and the Transport Ministry will hold discussions to determine possible actions against motorists who have yet to settle their outstanding summonses.
