KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 10): Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook said the government will continue public transport subsidies, even though they were not mentioned in Budget 2026.
The initiatives include the My50 Pass, FLYsiswa, and the festive season airfare cap.
The My50 Pass offers Malaysians 30 days of unlimited rides on LRT, MRT and bus services in the Klang Valley, while FLYsiswa provides flight vouchers for eligible public university students travelling between Peninsular and Sabah or Sarawak.
Under the festive season airfare cap, the government sets maximum fares for economy-class, one-way flights between Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah or Sarawak during major festivals.
“All the initiatives we have implemented over the past two to three years will continue to receive allocations from the Finance Ministry,” Loke told reporters on the sidelines of Parliament after the tabling of Budget 2026.
Loke did not reveal how much the Transport Ministry will get.
He added that several key transport-related measures were included in Budget 2026, such as a proposal to grant accelerated capital allowances for the purchase of speed limiters for heavy vehicles, allowing companies to claim the cost within one year.
In addition, the government and national carmakers will offer matching grants of up to RM4,000 to help owners scrap vehicles over 20 years old and purchase new ones.
