KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 8): Car upholstery manufacturer Pecca Group Bhd (KL:PECCA) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Betamek Bhd (KL:BETA) to work together on developing advanced entertainment systems for both in-flight and in-train use.
Under the MOU, Betamek will take the lead on the technical side, focusing on the development of the core digital components. This includes digital interfaces, entertainment terminals, content management systems and all necessary software integration specifically tailored for aviation and railway applications.
Pecca will concentrate on the physical integration and compliance aspects. Its role is to incorporate new digital infotainment technologies directly into seating and cabin platforms, ensuring that the final products meet international aviation and railway standards, according to a joint statement released by the companies.
Beyond their respective roles, both companies will collaboratively handle the prototyping, functional testing and validation of the integrated systems.
They plan to use Pecca's industry network to quickly develop the market for these new products, initially focusing on Malaysia and extending across the Asia Pacific region.
Betamek executive director Muhammad Fauzi Abd Ghani said the collaboration marks a strategic expansion for the company, moving its expertise beyond the automotive sector into the high-growth aviation and train segments.
By combining Betamek's capabilities in electronics R&D with Pecca's presence in aviation cabin ecosystems, "we aim to jointly deliver innovative, high-quality travel entertainment solutions that redefine the passenger experience and open new growth avenues across the Asia Pacific,” Muhammad Fauzi added.
Pecca executive director Hugo Teoh Zi Yi said this synergy will allow the company to deliver a next-generation passenger experience across trains and aircraft, bringing a new level of comfort and convenience to both operators and passengers.
Pecca’s share price settled unchanged at RM1.41 on Wednesday (Oct 8), giving the group a market capitalisation of RM1.06 billion. Betamek’s share price closed half a sen or 1.14% higher at 44.5 sen, translating into a market value of RM200 million.
