(Oct 2): Mimos Bhd unveiled 25 technologies — from semiconductors, advanced electronics, artificial intelligence (AI), quantum intelligence, blockchain, cybersecurity and decarbonisation technologies — at the Mimos Technology Preview (MTP) 2025.

MTP 2025 showcased cutting-edge technologies developed through Mimos’ applied research and development (R&D), offering industry-ready solutions while creating a platform for collaboration between government, industry, academia and civil society.

“These innovations are not just products of science; they are tools to help Malaysia achieve its aspirations under the 12th Malaysia Plan and 13th Malaysia Plan, the National Semiconductor Strategy, the New Industrial Master Plan and the National Energy Transition Roadmap,” said Dr Saat Shukri Embong president and Group CEO of Mimos Bhd.

Among them is Mi-ACE, which integrates AI and the Internet of Things (IOT) to dramatically improve the energy efficiency of chiller systems in large buildings, resulting in savings of 12% to 20% of total energy consumption.

Another innovation is Graphene Ink, a carbon-based nanomaterial which ensures environmental sustainability for bulk usage in the electrical and electronics industries and ITS, which provides indoor location positioning in real time with visualisation on a real-time dashboard for human resource management or asset tracking.

During the event, Datuk Dr Tengku Mohd Azzman Shariffadeen, founder of Mimos, said the national R&D centre must step up as leaders by bringing together stakeholders to work towards a common vision — to build resilience amid rapid technological and societal change by developing systems, products and services that also enhance national security.

“Systems that help to strengthen our nation's resilience in the face of rapid change are urgent, and so are products and services that will enhance national security. Above all, we should be purposeful in our strategic actions,” he said.
 
“Governing systems, structures and processes already exist domestically, regionally or globally, to clearly support, and build the agenda to move forward. Many of us are already well-placed to act as movers and shakers, whether in the government, industry, research or civil society.” 

Over the past year, Mimos has achieved breakthroughs in semiconductors, advanced electronics and strategic information and communication technology platforms, said Dr Jasmine Begum, chairperson at Mimos, adding that this will be through its Semiconductor Technology Centre and Advanced Electronics Laboratories.

“Most importantly, Mimos is not innovating in isolation. We are actively nurturing an innovation ecosystem, empowering small and medium enterprises, start-ups, joint ventures and spin-offs, translating R&D into market-ready technologies that propel Malaysian companies to compete globally,” she said. 

In this regard, the MTP 2025 saw document exchanges between Mimos and its new industry partners. For instance, Mimos Technology Solutions Sdn Bhd (MTSSB), a 100%-owned subsidiary of Mimos Bhd, is joining forces with Artificial Intelligence Sdn Bhd to create next-generation AI-driven software development tools.

Mimos is also collaborating with Bravefield Sdn Bhd to deploy the Smart Weight Integrity System — a digital radar solution designed to prevent weight manipulation in the
palm oil industry — nationwide. 

Other industry partnerships include: Angkasa Nine Tech Sdn Bhd, a Malaysian technology and solutions provider with networks in the government and public sector agencies; Analog Devices, a global semiconductor leader; and ECTrons Sdn Bhd, a Malaysian company focused on the design, development, integration and delivery of embedded computing and intelligent systems.

The national R&D centre marked its 40th year anniversary at the MTP 2025. Founded in 1985, Mimos has now grown into a world-class R&D centre with over 2,000 patents and countless innovations that have transformed industries, empowered communities, and strengthened the nation’s digital sovereignty.
