KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 29): Malayan Banking Bhd (KL:MAYBANK) has moved its internal audit chief Mohamad Yasin Abdullah to head its Islamic banking business effective Oct 1.

Mohamad Yasin will officially succeed the position of CEO at Maybank Islamic Bhd from Datuk Muzaffar Hisham, who stepped down in April to helm Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Bhd, according to a statement on Monday.

Yasin will be tasked with leading the Islamic banking franchise, overseeing business strategies, product development and innovation while ensuring risk management and Shariah compliance, the company said.

He will report directly to Maybank president Datuk Khairussaleh Ramli and serve as a member of the executive committee at the country’s largest bank by assets.

Yasin’s current role as Maybank’s group chief audit executive will be taken over by Malique Firdauz Ahmad Sidique, Maybank said.

Malique Firdauz, 47, has been overseeing the finances of Maybank Islamic before the latest management reshuffling. In his role, he will report functionally to the audit committee of the board and administratively to the president of Maybank.

The appointments demonstrate the effectiveness of Maybank’s internal succession planning and talent management practices, said Khairussaleh in the statement.

“This will be vital in ensuring that we are well-positioned to steer Maybank forward as we unlock its full potential in the next phase of our strategic growth as well as continue delivering exceptional value to our customers and stakeholders,” he added.
