KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 10): Furniture retailer SSF Home Group Bhd (KL:SSF) said on Wednesday it plans to make a fresh RM10 million investment in a venture capital fund.

The move enables SSF to earn returns from the subscription of limited partnership interest (LPI), which is expected to generate an income stream over a 12-month period, the company said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia.

This latest investment raises its total commitment in the venture capital fund, Spartan Hybrid, to RM15 million, after an earlier RM5 million subscription in January.

SFF Home said the earlier stake was not disclosed at the time as it did not meet Bursa Malaysia’s materiality threshold.

It added that these investments were made by signing a subscription agreement for an LPI in Spartan Hybrid, which is managed by Spartan Ives Capital Sdn Bhd.

The investments are funded entirely from internally generated funds, according to the filing.

Spartan Ives Capital, formerly known as Intrasys Sdn Bhd, is a registered venture capital management corporation with the Securities Commission Malaysia. It principally manages the investment in securities of venture corporations for the purpose of seed capital investment, start-up investment, early stage investment or growth stage investment.

Shares in SSF Home slipped half a sen or 1.32% to close at 37.5 sen on Wednesday, valuing the company at RM300 million. The counter remains up more than 7% year to date.
