PUTRAJAYA (Sept 9): The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is seeking information from UK authorities on former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad regarding his assets there, as part of an ongoing probe against him.
MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki shared this at a press conference on the progress of several cases being pursued by the anti-graft body.
“We are currently in the process of obtaining information from UK authorities regarding assets owned by Mahathir.
“If the information can be obtained, we will make an announcement in due course,” Azam said.

Updates on the MACC’s probe against Mahathir have been few and far between. The commission began its investigation into the former prime minister in 2022, when Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim became the PM.
The probe against Mahathir involved the asset declarations of his two sons, Mirzan Mahathir and Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir, which were made upon orders issued by the MACC.
Earlier in January this year, it was reported that Mokhzani had declared more than RM1 billion in assets, while his elder brother Mirzan declared about RM246 million.
Azam previously confirmed the asset declaration orders issued to Mirzan and Mokhzani were related to the MACC’s investigation into Mahathir. However, further details concerning the probe against the now centenarian had yet to be disclosed.
Mahathir previously claimed that the MACC had accused him of abusing power for personal gain.
The alleged offence is under Section 23 of the MACC Act, which stipulates that it is an offence to use an office or position for gratification, and a person convicted of such an offence is liable to face a jail term of 20 years and a fine of five times the gratification.
