KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 3): Companies linked to at least seven listed firms have received letters of notification from industry regulator Energy Commission (EC) as shortlisted bidders for large-scale solar (LSS) projects under the latest LSS5+ bidding round.

Their bids are among 13 that were shortlisted under the programme, out of 37 submissions that have been received by the EC. The bidders must fulfill the terms and conditions contained in the letter of notification to proceed with the projects.

According to bourse filings, an 80:20 consortium between Malakoff Corp Bhd (KL:MALAKOF) and Solarvest Holdings Bhd (KL:SLVEST) has been selected to develop one solar farm in the Larut and Matang district of Perak, with a capacity of 470MWac.

Separately, a 51:49 consortium between Sunview Group Bhd (KL:SUNVIEW) and Cypark Resources Bhd (KL:CYPARK) has been shortlisted to develop a 99.99MW solar photovoltaic plant in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan.

Another shortlisted consortium comprises Samaiden Group Bhd (KL:SAMAIDEN) and JBB Builders (M) Sdn Bhd, which plans to develop a 99.99MW solar plant in Segamat, Johor. The shareholding structure of this consortium was not disclosed.

Meanwhile, sources said YTL Power International Bhd (KL:YTLPOWR) had been shortlisted for a 100MW solar farm in Kelantan while Tenaga Nasional Bhd (KL:TENAGA) is a frontrunner for a floating solar project as well.

In total, the LSS5+ shortlist has a combined capacity of 1,975MW, which includes one of Malaysia’s largest floating solar installations, with a planned capacity of 200MW.

As with previous bidding rounds, the selected LSS farms will supply electricity to the national grid for a 21-year period upon commissioning. The projects are targeted for completion between 2027 and 2028, according to an earlier statement by the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation. The ministry did not name the winners.
