KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 29): Telekom Malaysia Bhd (KL:TM) said its data centre (DC) expansion in Johor and the Klang Valley — on track for operations by early fourth quarter — has received strong demand.

The group has faced “no problem” in filling additional capacities to be added to the Klang Valley Data Centre (KVDC) and Iskandar Puteri Data Centre (IPDC), TM group CEO Amar Huzaimi Md Deris said during an earnings brief on Friday.

“Let’s say we have no problem filling up the DCs. It's full even before it's ready,” Amar said when asked on the take-up rates of the facilities.

“I think that may provide a glimpse of the take-up rate for IPDC and KVDC,” he added, noting that the demand is not only from locals, but also foreign entities.

The expansion comprises the second phase of both KVDC and IPDC, adding a cumulative 20MW of data processing capacity. The expanded capacities are targeted for operations by the end of the third quarter and early fourth quarter of 2025, Amar noted.

He also noted that the DC to be operated by ST Dynamo DC — a joint venture with Singapore Telecommunications Ltd’s unit Nxera My Pte Ltd — is still on track for completion by mid-2026.

The ST Dynamo DC will have an initial capacity of 64MW, with the potential to be the group’s largest DC, with room to scale up to 200MW.

On the recent series of minor earthquakes in Segamat, Amar said the incidents have no impact on its DC operations and plans in the state.  “As per design, it is designed to withstand a certain level of magnitude. Whatever happened in Segamat is way below what it is designed for.”

TM's DC operations are under TM Global, under its carrier-to-carrier (C2C) segment.

The C2C segment contributed 25.1% of the group's revenue of RM2.77 billion for the second quarter ended June 30, 2025 (2QFY2025). The group’s net profit stood at RM402.97 million.

TM declared an interim dividend of 12.5 sen per share.

Shares in TM ended three sen or 0.43% lower at RM7.02 on Friday, valuing the group at RM26.94 billion.
