KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 26): Berjaya Land Bhd (KL:BJLAND) stayed in the red in the fourth quarter ended June 30, 2025 (4QFY2025), but its net loss shrank year-on-year (y-o-y) to RM15.43 million, helped by a RM38.33 million court-awarded compensation linked to the Selangor Turf Club project.
Berjaya Land was awarded RM38.33 million in compensation by the High Court in June after the Federal Court reversed a 2021 ruling that cancelled its 2004 Selangor Turf Club project. The amount covers losses from 2008 due to public duty failures. Berjaya Land is appealing the dismissal of some claims, with case management at the Court of Appeal set for Sept 17, 2025.
In its filing with the bourse, Berjaya Land said its net loss narrowed from RM79.91 million in 4QFY2024, helped by higher profits from its hotels and resorts and associates as well as foreign exchange gains.
This was despite lower profits from the number forecast operations (NFO) under STM Lottery Sdn Bhd and its property development and investment business. STM Lottery’s profit was dragged by higher operating expenses.
Its UK-based car dealership HR Owen also saw weaker new car sales. The group also booked a RM47.8 million impairment on balance sale proceeds of the Great Mall project, as well as impairments owing to associated companies amounting to RM29.7 million.
Quarterly revenue fell 2.4% y-o-y to RM1.91 billion from RM1.96 billion. No dividend was declared for the quarter or financial year under review.
For the financial year ended June 30, 2025 (FY2025), Berjaya Land’s net loss expanded to RM102.78 million from RM87.74 million in FY2024, as full-year revenue edged down 1.4% y-o-y to RM7.55 billion versus RM7.65 billion.
Looking ahead, Berjaya Land said it expects the performance of its domestic business segments to improve on the back of strong consumer spending and improved tourism activities.
“As for the NFO business, it is expected to continue to deliver growth in line with the popularity of its Jackpot and Digit games and continue its lead in terms of market share in the legalised NFO business sector,” it added.
Shares in Berjaya Land ended unchanged at 28 sen on Tuesday, valuing the group at RM1.4 billion.
