KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 25): Southern Cable Group Bhd (KL:SCGBHD) is upbeat on its prospects on the back of sustained power cable and wire demand, as its second-quarter net profit more than doubled from a year earlier to a record high on the back of increased sales volume and a better product mix.

Net profit for the three months ended June 30, 2025 (2QFY2025), rose to RM31.64 million — the highest since its listing in October 2020 — from RM14.43 million, the power cable and wire maker’s bourse filing on Monday showed.

Earnings surged thanks to a better product mix coupled with a 33.97% rise in quarterly revenue to RM419.3 million from RM315.33 million in 2QFY2024 on the back of higher sales volume, supported by larger annual production capacity.

The group declared an interim dividend of 1.20 sen per share, to be paid on Oct 15.

For the first half of FY2025, Southern Cable’s net profit doubled to RM59.05 million compared with RM28.5 million in the previous corresponding period, as cumulative revenue climbed 29.1% to RM810.11 million from RM627.36 million.

Southern Cable said the group is positive on its outlook for the full year, supported by a healthy order book and robust market demand.

Domestic demand is expected to be sustained by infrastructure development and the National Energy Transition Roadmap, according to the group.

It said it is also driving overseas sales growth, particularly in the US, where demand from its key customers continues to grow. “The group is expanding its product portfolio and securing certifications to broaden its product range and accelerate overseas revenue growth.”

The group’s order book stood at RM1.17 billion at end-June.

Shares in Southern Cable ended one sen or 0.52% lower at RM1.90, valuing the group at RM1.87 billion.
