KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 21): The Dewan Rakyat on Thursday passed the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) without amendments following three weeks of debate and winding-up speeches.
The 13MP, which was tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on July 31, was approved via a voice vote. A total of 153 members of Parliament from both the government and the opposition took part in the debate spanning two weeks.
Meanwhile, 29 ministers participated in the winding-up speeches held over three days with final remarks delivered by Acting Economy Minister Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.
The 13MP, themed “Melakar Semula Pembangunan” (Redesigning Development), sets a target of 4.5% to 5.5% annual gross domestic product growth over the next five years, supported by an allocation of RM430 billion for development projects.
Overall, the 13MP is anchored on three main pillars — building an artificial intelligence-driven economy, developing a human-centred social system, and fostering a sovereign and dignified nation — supported by more than 120 strategies and over 600 initiatives.
