KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 13): A total of RM29.7 billion in funds linked to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) and SRC International Sdn Bhd (SRC) has been recovered since the establishment of the Asset Recovery Trust Account in 2018, said the Ministry of Finance (MOF).

Of the total, RM10.9 billion was recovered between 2022 and June 30, 2025, the MOF said in a written parliamentary reply on Wednesday.

The ministry said that as at July 31, 2025, RM42.17 billion in net funds had been channelled to 1MDB to finance debt repayments and meet its financial obligations. This comprised RM15.44 billion from the MOF and Minister of Finance Inc (MOF Inc) via shareholder advances or loans, and RM26.73 billion from recovered 1MDB assets.

A total of RM28.93 billion was used to repay principal debt, while RM13.24 billion went towards interest payments and other commitments.

“As of now, the outstanding 1MDB debt, covering principal and interest on the sukuk Islamic medium term notes until 2039, stands at RM9.02 billion — RM5 billion in principal and RM4.02 billion in interest,” the MOF said.

The ministry was responding to Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (PH-Bandar Tun Razak), who had asked about the total amount of public funds recovered by the government since 2022, including the return of assets linked to high-profile cases such as 1MDB.

For SRC, the MOF said the government has allocated RM5.35 billion to settle its principal, interest and other obligations.

The ministry said the asset recovery process is still ongoing, describing it as complex and time-consuming due to the involvement of multiple domestic and foreign agencies, as well as court proceedings and settlement negotiations.

“Nevertheless, the government remains committed to maximising recoveries to settle all 1MDB and SRC debts within the stipulated timeframe,” the MOF added.
