KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 6): A prominent businessman was attacked by ten men at his home near Petaling Jaya on Wednesday.
The man, a key witness in former Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng’s undersea tunnel corruption trial, suffered multiple injuries to his face and hands after the men forced their way into his home.
A source close to the trial told The Edge that the motive for the attack is still unknown. A police source said it may have been a robbery, but this has not been confirmed.
Petaling Jaya OCPD Assistant Commissioner Shahrulnizam Ja’afar confirmed the incident and said investigations are still ongoing. He added that a media statement will be issued once investigations are completed.
The prosecution witness in Lim’s trial had testified at the end of July that former Consortium Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd (CZCSB) director Datuk Zarul Ahmad Mohd Zulkifli had wanted him to act as a conduit to pay bribes to Lim.
The witness had said that the arrangement happened sometime in early August 2017.
Lim is on trial for using his position as the then-Penang chief minister to solicit a 10% cut in the RM6.3 billion undersea tunnel project’s profits from Zarul Ahmad, in return for aiding Zarul Ahmad’s company to secure the project.
