KUALA LUMPUR (July 29): Bursa Malaysia Bhd's (KL:BURSA) net profit fell 29.07% year-on-year for the second quarter ended June 30 (2QFY2025), as securities trading revenue extended its decline for the third consecutive quarter while other segments’ contribution rose.

Net profit fell to RM57.06 million in 2QFY2025 from RM80.45 million in the same quarter last year, Bursa’s results filing showed.

Securities market revenue fell 22%, dragging its total revenue to RM172.58 million from RM199.94 million a year ago.

The group declared a dividend of 14 sen per share for the first six months ended June 30 (1HFY2025), compared with its earnings per share (EPS) of 15.5 sen. It paid out a dividend of 18 sen per share in the same period last year, on EPS of 19.2 sen.

Bursa Malaysia noted that US tariff talks and geopolitical tensions “impacted market sentiment and weighed on equity markets” and its securities market segment.

However, the rise in all other segments’ revenue “reflects the importance of the exchange’s strategy to diversify revenue lines by enhancing our offerings across multiple asset classes”, said Bursa Malaysia chief executive officer Datuk Fad’l Mohamed.

For 1HFY2025, Bursa Malaysia’s net profit fell 19.29% year-on-year to RM125.48 million from RM155.48 million. Revenue declined 7.8% to RM356.96 million from RM387.14 million a year ago.

While Bursa Malaysia continued to lead the Asean market in terms of new listings by volume, value and market capitalisation, Fad’l said the exchange operator will continue to “monitor global developments and market impact”.

“We are committed to advancing Bursa Malaysia as a Multi-Asset Exchange under our Strategic Roadmap 2024–2026. Our key focus areas include being the fundraising platform of choice for businesses, improving market vibrancy and liquidity, as well as exploring fresh ways to propel the data business,” he said.

Bursa Malaysia shares rose three sen or 0.39% to RM7.67 at the noon market break on Tuesday, giving it a market capitalisation of RM6.21 billion. The counter is down over 14% this year.
