KUALA LUMPUR (July 7): Malaysia has significantly streamlined the expatriate hiring process by integrating MYFutureJobs and ePPAX requirements into a single Xpats Gateway platform, effective July 1. This integration marks the operationalisation of Malaysia's end-to-end digital expatriate approval ecosystem.

Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong said this unified platform will accelerate the application process and eliminate redundancies. He said the entire approval process, which previously took up to a year, would now be shortened to up to 20 days.

“The first immediate benefit or advantage would be the one-stop platform (for hiring expatriates). In the past, companies would need to apply through three platforms. But beginning July 1, these companies only need to go to a one-stop centre. That itself is efficiency, productivity and ease of the process,” Sim told a media briefing on Monday (July 7).

Sim said this integration reflects the government's commitment to boosting productivity, improving regulatory coherence, and enhancing the ease of doing business in Malaysia.

“By streamlining processes across Perkeso (the Social Security Organisation or Socso), JTKSM (Department of Labour Peninsular Malaysia), and TalentCorp, we are advancing government service delivery, raising productivity, and reinforcing Malaysia’s position as a competitive, investment-ready economy,” Sim said. He also commended TalentCorp for developing and integrating the platform in-house.

Datuk Zakaria Shaaban, Director-General of the Immigration Department, said the integration is expected to enable transparent, data-driven documentation in the approval of expatriate employment passes.

“This collaboration between the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN), the Immigration Department, and Kesuma (the Ministry of Human Resources) is an example of a whole-of-government approach to strengthening investor confidence, upholding national security, and delivering more trustworthy and transparent public services,” Zakaria said.

The Xpats Gateway is seen as a key enabler of the Madani Economy Framework, which aims to position Malaysia among the world’s top 12 most competitive economies by 2033. Malaysia currently ranks 23rd globally — its highest ranking since the pandemic, having jumped 11 spots from 34th in 2024.
