KUALA LUMPUR (June 10): Ampang Member of Parliament Rodziah Ismail stressed on Tuesday that she remains committed to serving her constituents after it was reported that that Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz may be fielded there as PKR's candidate in the next general election.
"I remain committed to developing Ampang together with the community, restoring Ampang's charm and ensuring your voice is my priority,” she said in a Facebook post.
Noting that she has served as Ampang MP for nearly three years, Rodziah reflected on the political upheaval in 2022, which she said served as a lesson.
“The bitter experience of 2022 taught us that the people’s trust must never be betrayed,” she said.
She added that her focus remains on developing Ampang together with the community.
“Thank you for strengthening my spirit,” she told her constituents.
Rodziah was unsuccessful in her bid to take over as PKR Wanita chief from incumbent Fadhlina Sidek in the recent party leadership elections. This came after she also failed to defend her Shah Alam division chief's post in April.
The former Selangor state executive councillor had aligned herself with former PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, who failed to defend the position in the party polls.
Zafrul has been making news after announcing on May 30 that he had informed the PKR leadership of his intention to join the party, following his resignation from Umno.
There was some speculation that the senator may contest a state seat in Selangor in a by-election.
On Monday, it was reported that PKR may also consider fielding him in a Parliamentary constituency in Selangor, with Ampang mentioned as one of the seats being considered.
However, Zafrul has clarified that he has never considered contesting in any by-election, either at the Parliament or state level, following his exit from Umno and his announcement of intent to join PKR.
