KUALA LUMPUR (June 6): Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd (KL:BIMB) chief financial officer (CFO) Azizan Abd Aziz is leaving the bank to become CFO of Bursa Malaysia (KL:BURSA).

In a bourse filing on Friday, the stock exchange operator said the appointment is effective Aug 1 this year.

As CFO, he will oversee Bursa Malaysia’s finance function, including financial and management reporting, corporate planning, and budgeting, Bursa Malaysia said.

Azizan brings over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry, with a strong background in corporate finance and advisory. He has held senior roles at two of the global “Big Four” accounting firms, which are Deloitte (Malaysia) and KPMG (UK) among others, Bursa stated.

“We look forward to Azizan joining the exchange. His extensive experience and financial acumen will be instrumental in continuing to strengthen Bursa Malaysia’s operational efficiency and strategic endeavours, working collaboratively with our leadership team as we navigate an increasingly dynamic market landscape,” Bursa’s chief executive officer Datuk Fad’l Mohamed said.

Bank Islam, in a separate filing with the regulator, announced that Azizan’s last working day will be on July 31. The bank is searching for a replacement, with shortlisted candidates to be reviewed and approved by the board.

In the meantime, group financial controller Siti Nur Huda Sufian will take over as acting CFO starting Aug 1, to ensure continuity in the leadership and management of the finance function.

Azizan joined the bank as CFO in May 2019 and became group CFO in October 2021, upon its listing.
