KUALA LUMPUR (May 30): Umno said has not received any formal resignation from Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz, despite his public declaration to leave the party for Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).

The party noted Zafrul's announcement was made via his personal social media account, without submitting an official resignation letter to Umno leadership.

Umno expressed serious concern over Zafrul’s intent to depart, citing the political consequences of joining an opposition-aligned party while being part of the ruling coalition.

"It is inappropriate for any party within the unity government to accept members from other coalition parties without due consideration," it said.

The party warned that such actions could disrupt intra-coalition harmony and erode mutual trust among grassroots members.

Earlier on Friday, Zafrul announced that he has resigned from Umno, relinquishing his positions in the party’s supreme council and Kota Raja division.

He also disclosed that he had informed the PKR leadership of his intention to join the party.

Zafrul revealed in his resignation announcement that he has been with Umno since 1997.
