KUALA LUMPUR (May 23): The Attorney General’s Chambers on Friday said it is considering setting aside imprisoned former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's application to institute contempt proceedings against former AG Tan Sri Ahmad Terrirudin Mohd Salleh.

In a statement, the AG’s Chambers said that Najib's application, filed through Messrs Shafee & Co, could be considered an abuse of the court process.

"The attempt to file the contempt application when the High Court has allowed a stay of proceedings on April 28 over Najib's addendum is against the court order and amounts to a violation of the administration of justice.

“Ahmad Terrirudin as the former AG has done his job and function according to the constitution as required.

“Hence, to move for committal proceedings when the AG's appeal over the addendum is still pending at the Federal Court is unwise and prejudicial,” the statement said.

Earlier, Najib's lawyers had indicated that they had filed an application to cite Ahmad Terrirudin for contempt over allegedly not disclosing the addendum that purportedly allows Najib to serve the remainder of his jail sentence under house arrest.
