KUALA LUMPUR (May 14): AwanBiru Technology Bhd (KL:AWANTEC) has received the full and final RM201.45 million settlement from the government, ending a seven-year dispute over the cancelled RM3.5 billion National Immigration Control System (SKIN) project.

On March 24, 2025, the Court of Appeal recorded a consent judgement where the government agreed to pay AwanBiru's unit Prestariang Skin Sdn Bhd RM201.45 million within three months and dropped its appeal against a previous court order to pay RM231.55 million.

The company said its wholly owned subsidiary Prestariang Skin Sdn Bhd (PSKIN) received the full and final settlement sum on Wednesday, the group’s bourse filing showed.

“The receipt of the settlement sum marks the conclusion of the legal proceedings in relation to this matter, enabling the company to move forward with full focus on driving future growth and continuing to deliver value to our stakeholders,” it said.

The dispute began in April 2019 when PSKIN claimed RM733 million from the government over the termination of the RM3.5 billion SKIN project, a 15-year contract to upgrade Malaysia’s immigration system.

The project, awarded in 2017 under Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s government, aimed to replace the existing system and enhance border security.

In December 2018, the Pakatan Harapan government under Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad cancelled the project to cut costs. Failed negotiations led PSKIN to pursue legal action.

AwanBiru's share price closed up one sen or 3.23% to 32 sen, bringing the group a market capitalisation of RM253 million.
