KUALA LUMPUR (May 7): Starting May 7, 2025, Malaysia will impose five-year anti-dumping duties on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) imports from Indonesia (37.44%) and China (2.29% to 11.74%) after finding the products were sold below their home country prices.
The Royal Malaysian Customs Department will collect anti-dumping duties on these imports for five years, starting from May 7, 2025, to May 6, 2030.
PET is a key material in the textile, packaging, and manufacturing industries.
The Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (Miti), in a statement on Wednesday, said the practice was found to have caused material injury to the domestic industry in Malaysia producing the like product.
According to Miti, the investigation was carried out under Malaysia’s anti-dumping laws after a petition by local producer Recron (M) Sdn Bhd. It aimed to confirm if dumping occurred, how severe it was, and its impact on the local industry.
"With the imposition of anti-dumping duties on the imports of subject merchandise from the alleged countries, it is expected that the issue of unfair trade practices will be addressed," said Miti.
