KUALA LUMPUR (April 25): Foreign broker CLSA Securities Malaysia Sdn Bhd on Friday announced its entry into Malaysia’s structured warrants market with the launch of six new instruments on Bursa Malaysia, aimed at a broad spectrum of investors.
The structured warrants cover some of Malaysia’s most actively traded counters, including MyEG Services Bhd (KL:MYEG), Gamuda Bhd (KL:GAMUDA), Genting Bhd (KL:GENTING), Inari Amertron Bhd (KL:INARI), Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd (KL:PCHEM), and YTL Power International Bhd (KL:YTLPOWR).
CLSA's country head of Malaysia Kit Lim said: “We look forward to expanding our coverage, deepening engagement with investors, and building a trading experience that matches the ambition of Malaysia’s growing retail market".
CLSA is part of CITIC CLSA, a wholly owned subsidiary and overseas platform of China-based investment bank CITIC Securities. The group becomes the second foreign issuer in Malaysia’s structured warrants space, following the entry of Australia-based Macquarie Capital Securities (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd in 2014. In total, Bursa Malaysia has eight issuers for structures warrants in the country.
“Our approach in Malaysia is designed to meet the needs of a rapidly evolving investor landscape, from traditional long-term investors to the new wave of digitally native Gen Z traders,” the firm said in a statement.
While younger investors may gravitate towards fast-paced, leveraged asset classes such as cryptocurrencies and foreign exchange trading, CLSA sees structured warrants as a compelling alternative, the company said.
The launch was welcomed by Bursa Malaysia Bhd (KL:BURSA) chief executive officer Datuk Fad’l Mohamed, who said CLSA’s entry would boost participation and innovation in the domestic derivatives space.
“Today’s listing signifies not just a new chapter for CLSA, but also a progressive step forward for the structured warrants market in Malaysia,” Fad’l Mohamed said. “We are confident that this new partnership will further invigorate the market, delivering enduring benefits to investors, issuers, and the broader investment community.”
CLSA first entered the Malaysian market in 1990 through its research offerings tailored to local financial institutions and investors. It now operates across 13 market globally, including Asia, Australia, Europe, and the Americas.
