(April 17): Malaysia is delaying liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipments to buyers due to an outage at its massive export facility, threatening to curb supply in Asia.

Petronas, Malaysia’s state-owned exporter, has requested delays for more than five scheduled shipments affected by the outage, said the traders, asking not to be identified as they were not authorised to speak with media.

At least three production trains were offline at Petronas’ Bintulu export facility, according to Kayrros, which gathers operational information via satellites. The outage was detected on April 9, it said.

Petroliam Nasional Bhd, as the state-owned company is formally known, didn’t respond to a request for comment.

This is the latest in a string of outages across Asia, which could support spot prices of the power plant and industrial fuel. Brunei LNG and the Ichthys facility in Australia were forced to reduce output earlier this month for unplanned maintenance.
