(April 7): Oman is the “main candidate” to mediate any potential nuclear negotiations between Iran and the US, the Iranian foreign ministry said on Monday.

The Islamic Republic hasn’t yet heard from the US after sending a “responsible, generous and wise” counter-proposal to US President Donald Trump, after he sent a letter to Tehran last month about striking a new nuclear deal, Nasser Kanaani, spokesman for Iran’s foreign ministry, told reporters at a televised press conference.

Kanaani added that a trilateral, expert-level meeting was taking place in Moscow on Monday, involving Iranian, Russian and Chinese officials, to discuss the moribund 2015 nuclear deal.
