KUALA LUMPUR (April 7): Gas Malaysia Bhd (KL:GASMSIA) announced on Monday an expansion of the gas supply curtailment areas due to ongoing operational limitations stemming from the recent explosion at Putra Heights caused by a gas pipeline leak.
The MMC Group member said in a press statement that while the previously announced curtailment period remains in effect — expected to last until April 20 — a new notification from the gas supplier indicates that additional areas and customers will now be affected.
The curtailment, initially focused on areas directly impacted by the Putra Heights incident on April 1, will now be widened to include Merbau, Tronoh, Perai, Junjung, and Hutan Melintang.
Gas Malaysia assured that it had intensified coordination efforts with both the affected customers and the gas supplier to effectively manage the situation. The company reiterated its commitment to providing support and timely updates to all parties experiencing service disruption.
"Mitigating customer impact, ensuring public safety, and upholding service integrity remain Gas Malaysia’s key priorities throughout this period," the company said.
"Gas Malaysia deeply appreciates the continued understanding and cooperation of all its customers and stakeholders, as the group navigates these temporary challenges.
"Further updates will be provided on our official website at www.gasmalaysia.com, as new information becomes available," it added.
Following the blaze last week, Gas Malaysia had announced on April 2 the temporary closure of gas facilities that will disrupt gas supply to customers in areas such as Shah Alam, Kundang, Petaling Jaya, Teluk Panglima Garang, Pelabuhan Klang, and Pulau Indah.
Gas Malaysia also said the incident is not expected to have a material effect on the group’s earnings for the financial year ending Dec 31, 2025.
The explosion and fire on April 1, involving Petronas Gas’ main gas pipeline, affected 1,254 people from 308 families. The incident resulted in 87 houses being destroyed, and 148 others needing repairs.
