Pos Malaysia’s stock surges 36%, trading volume rises to over four-year high

KUALA LUMPUR (March 27): Shares of Pos Malaysia Bhd (KL:POS) jumped on Thursday to their highest in more than a month in highly active trade.

Pos Malaysia's shares surged by as much as 36% or seven sen to 26.5 sen. The stock pared some gains to settle at 25.5 sen at market close, still up 30.8% or six sen after 25.71 million shares changed hands, for a market capitalisation of RM194.06 million. The trading volume was its biggest in a single day since November 2020.

The Edge has reached out to Pos Malaysia for comment but has yet to receive a response.

DRB-Hicom Bhd (KL:DRBHCOM), a conglomerate controlled by billionaire businessman Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Albukhary, owns a 53.5% stake in Pos Malaysia. The Retirement Fund Inc (KWAP) is the second largest shareholder of Pos Malaysia with a 3.97% stake.

Shares of Pos Malaysia have been in a downward spiral as the national postal company grappled with massive losses stretching over six consecutive financial years. The company ended 2024 with a net loss of RM202.66 million as annual revenue fell to RM1.95 billion.

Pos Malaysia last declared a dividend of four sen per share in the financial year ended March 31, 2019 before it changed its financial year-end from March 31 to Dec 31.
