KUALA LUMPUR (March 17): Poh Huat Resources Holdings Bhd (KL:POHUAT) saw its first-quarter net profit fall 7.98% to RM9.48 million from RM10.30 million a year earlier,  due to higher material costs and factory overheads, amid lower capacity utilisation in its Vietnam factories.

Earnings per share in the first quarter ended Jan 31, 2025 (1QFY2025) slipped to 3.58 sen from 3.89 sen a year ago, the furniture maker showed in a bourse filing on Monday.

Quarterly revenue rose 3.90% year-on-year to RM136.25 million from RM131.14 million, driven by stronger office furniture orders from the company's Malaysian operations. This was partly mitigated by lower demand from the Vietnam factories.

Moving forward, Poh Huat flagged uncertainty from US trade policies, a softening US housing market, and currency volatility as key risks.

“The volatility of the US dollar against most currencies, including the ringgit, will just bring more uncertainties to the group,” the company said, adding that it will
adjust its strategies to navigate the challenges and identify opportunities.

Poh Huat shares closed unchanged at RM1.22 on Monday, giving the company a market capitalisation of RM340 million. The counter has dropped 17% over the past one year.
