KUALA LUMPUR (March 14): Malaysia’s central bank on Friday announced the appointment of Aznan Abdul Aziz as deputy governor following the retirement of Jessica Chew Cheng Lian.

Aznan will oversee the supervision and regulation sector while serving on the board of directors and monetary policy committee, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) said in a statement. Chew is appointed as a technical adviser on financial stability following her retirement, the central bank said.

BNM governor Datuk Seri Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour thanked Chew for contribution to the central bank and the nation. “I also appreciate her willingness to continue supporting BNM in the technical work relating to financial stability,” he said.

Chew had been with the central bank for more than three decades and spent most of her time supervising the financial sector. She was also involved in the development of various blueprints for the sector as well as contributed towards enactment of the Financial Services Act 2013.
