Edotco Malaysia Sdn Bhd announced it has been chosen as the 5G in-building coverage infrastructure partner by U Mobile Sdn Bhd which aims to expedite the deployment of 5G coverage inside buildings.
KUALA LUMPUR (March 6): Axiata Group Bhd’s (KL:AXIATA) Edotco Malaysia Sdn Bhd has announced a series of collaborations aimed at accelerating 5G telecommunications infrastructure in Malaysia, including being selected as U Mobile Sdn Bhd’s 5G in-building coverage (IBC) infrastructure partner.
Edotco, in a statement on Thursday, said it is one of the first companies to be recognised as an “official and preferred” 5G IBC infrastructure partner for U Mobile’s 5G network rollout, and that the partnership aims to expedite the deployment of 5G coverage inside buildings. U Mobile was selected by the Malaysian government in November last year to spearhead the implementation of the country's second 5G network.
“Edotco will provide comprehensive one-stop solutions, including design, supply, site acquisition, commissioning, operation, and maintenance to support U Mobile’s 5G IBC expansion,” Edotco said.
“This will be crucial in enhancing mobile network accessibility and reliability, particularly in commercial hubs and high-traffic areas,” it added.
Edotco also announced three additional partnerships with separate entities to accelerate 5G expansion.
The company is collaborating with Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) to spearhead efforts to establish Langkawi as Malaysia’s first 5G-enabled digital tourism hub.
Another partnership was formed with CelcomDigi Bhd (KL:CDB) that focuses on enhancing digital inclusion and sustainability through the implementation of net zero towers, as well as the deployment of lightweight, low-power connectivity solutions in rural and underserved areas, said Edotco.
At the same time, Edotco is collaborating with UK-based wireless infrastructure platform developer Avealto Ltd to explore high-altitude connectivity solutions via a proof-of-concept trial. “If successful, this initiative could introduce breakthrough technologies that enhance Malaysia’s network resilience and scalability,” Edotco said.
The various strategic partnerships were formalised at the Mobile World Congress 2025, which took place from March 3 to 6, said Edotco.
“These strategic collaborations position Edotco Malaysia at the forefront of digital infrastructure development, allowing the company to scale impact, share expertise and drive innovation in alignment with national development goals outlined in the 12th Malaysia Plan and the Shared Prosperity Vision 2030,” the company said.
“The agreements reflect Edotco’s ongoing commitment to strengthening Malaysia’s digital ecosystem, supporting MNOs [mobile network operators], businesses and consumers in the transition towards a fully connected and sustainable future,” it added.
Shares in Axiata closed unchanged at RM1.91, valuing the group at RM17.54 billion. Axiata holds a 63% stake in regional tower infrastructure player Edotco Group Sdn Bhd, which in turn wholly owns Edotco, according to the group’s latest annual report.
