PHNOM PENH (Feb 25): Farm Fresh Bhd (KL:FFB) is exploring the prospects of expanding its dairy production in Cambodia.

Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, who is on a two-day visit to the kingdom, told the media that it is a private-sector investment that augurs well for both countries.

“I discussed with the minister [of agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, Dith Tina] about a Malaysian company, Farm Fresh, to open dairy farming in Cambodia.

“We are discussing land and technical issues. So far, there are not many obstacles.

“This [investment] will significantly improve food security and self-sufficiency levels of fresh milk in Cambodia, which is now reliant on milk imports,” said Mohamad.

He also discussed with his counterpart multiple issues relating to the import of rice from Cambodia (fragrant rice), aquaculture, fisheries, and deepening collaboration in maintaining food security.

“We need to cooperate with Cambodia on food security because of climate change. We need to work together with rice-producing countries like Cambodia, which is producing rice five times more than Malaysia,” he said.

Malaysia procures about 50,000 metric tons of rice from Cambodia on a government-to-government basis.
