KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 24): Chery Corporate Malaysia Sdn Bhd (Chery Malaysia) signed an agreement with Legenda Beringin Holding Sdn Bhd to develop a 200-acre Chery Smart Auto Industrial Park at Legenda's 800-acre Beringin High-Tech Auto Valley (Beringing HTAV) development in Hulu Selangor, Selangor, at a groundbreaking ceremony on Sunday.
According to a press release on Sunday, the Chery Smart Auto Industrial Park project is a RM2.2 billion investment by Chery Holding Group Co Ltd over a five-year period, and its first phase is targeted to be completed in 2026.
The industrial park is projected to have an initial production capacity of 100,000 vehicles, which is scalable to reach a maximum capacity of 300,000 units.
“Chery is proud to be an integral part of this visionary development, where we will establish state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities, integrate cutting-edge smart technologies, and produce an extensive range of vehicles — from internal combustion engine (ICE) models to the latest in plug-in hybrid (PHEV), battery electric (BEV), and energy-efficient vehicle (EEV) technologies,” said Chery International president Zhang Guibing in the statement.
“We are confident that once completed, it will create high-value job opportunities, house a cutting-edge research and development centre, expand vehicle exports to neighbouring countries, strengthen Selangor’s role through a robust supply chain, and solidify Malaysia’s position as a leading automotive hub in Asean,” he added.
Legenda Beringin chairman Chia Song Kooi added, “This project is more than a land investment. It supports Malaysia’s aspiration of being a high-tech and sustainable industrial economy by 2030, which is in line with the New Industrial Master Plan. We are grateful for the confidence placed in us by Chery, and for the dedicated support of the Selangor government, Invest Selangor, and many other local authorities and agencies. With unity, determination and a shared ambition, we are confident in making this vision a reality.”
According to the statement, the Chery Smart Auto Industrial Park anchors the first-phase development of the Beringin HTAV development. “The remaining land area [of the Beringin HTAV] will be allocated for other developments that support the vision of building a leading hub for automotive innovation, supply chain, vocational training and technological advancement in the region.”
The groundbreaking event was officiated by Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah, and state exco for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han.
