KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 21): Capri by Fraser, Penang, had its topping-out ceremony on Jan 20, marking the structural completion of the 248-unit hotel on Magazine Road in George Town.

The project is owned and developed by Curate Properties & Hotel Sdn Bhd, and the hotel is managed by Frasers Hospitality. Construction started in October 2023, and the hotel is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2026.

In a press statement, Curate Properties & Hotel director Soo Yi Xin said, “Penang is a vibrant destination with a unique blend of culture, history and modernity. We are very excited to be bringing in the Capri by Fraser brand, which will complement this city with its innovative and lifestyle-focused edge to the hospitality industry.

“The brand caters to the demands of both business and leisure travellers with its unique proposition of highly social and tech-savvy applications, while being a design-centric space,” she added.

The development is designed to blend contemporary aesthetics with Penang’s Peranakan heritage, and includes the conservation of a row of heritage shophouses, which are converted into the hotel lobby, restaurant and cafe.

Hotel amenities and facilities will include a 24-hour gym, meeting rooms, an all-day dining restaurant, a café, rooftop event spaces, as well as Capri by Fraser’s signature Spin & Play laundry and games room and The Den social hub.
