KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 14): MNRB Holdings Bhd (KL:MNRB) has appointed Datuk Sulaiman Mohd Tahir as the group’s new chairman, effective immediately.
Sulaiman succeeds Datuk Johar Che Mat who stepped down from the post back on Feb 12 due to “personal commitments”.
Sulaiman’s career in Malaysia’s financial sector spans over 30 years, including his current stint as Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Bhd’s chairman — a role he had assumed since March 20, 2024.
Besides his role at Bank Pembangunan, Sulaiman is also a director of Payment Network Malaysia Sdn Bhd, the operator of Malaysia’s payment network and shared central infrastructure for the nation’s financial markets.
His former roles include being CEO of AMMB Holdings Bhd (KL:AMBANK) and CEO of CIMB Bank Bhd.
“His extensive background in banking and finance, along with his commitment to excellence, will contribute significantly to MNRB’s ongoing growth and development,” the reinsurer said in a statement.
“Sulaiman’s appointment ensures a smooth transition of leadership and reinforces MNRB’s focus on delivering long-term value to its stakeholders,” it added.
MNRB also extended its heartfelt appreciation to Johar for his dedicated service and contributions to the group over the past seven years.
“Johar will continue to share his expertise and insights within the group as chairman of the group’s subsidiaries, Takaful Ikhlas Family Bhd and Takaful Ikhlas General Bhd,” the group said.
Shares in MNRB ended one sen or 0.46% lower at RM2.15, valuing the group at RM1.68 billion.
