KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 5): Malaysia recorded just over 25 million international tourist arrivals in 2024, falling short of its target of 27.3 million for the year.

However, the figure marked a 24.2% year-on-year increase from the 20.14 million arrivals in 2023, said Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing in a written parliamentary reply on Tuesday.

Among the top contributors, Singapore led with 9.1 million arrivals, followed by Indonesia (3.65 million), China (3.29 million), Thailand (1.64 million), and Brunei (1.14 million).

Tiong did not provide details of Malaysia's tourism revenue for 2024.

The Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture had set a target of 27.3 million international tourists, and RM102.7 billion in tourism revenue for 2024.

For 2025, Malaysia has set a target of 31.4 million international tourist arrivals. Tiong said the ministry had allocated RM10 million to 13 states for tourism promotion, with the Federal Territories receiving the highest allocation of RM1.33 million, followed by Selangor at RM1.26 million.
