KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 22): The Sukhoi Su-30MKM Service Life Extension Programme (Slep) by local company, Aerospace Technology Systems Corporation (ATSC) will ensure the aircraft will operate well and be used for another decade.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said ATSC has conducted Service Life Extension and Preventive Restoration Works/Overhaul to ensure that aircraft could operate longer and would ensure that Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) aircraft were at optimum levels and reduce expenditure compared to sending the aircraft to Russia.

“This success shows the capabilities of our local industry, but local companies should continue to raise their capabilities and look for best approaches to strengthen the industry, including through research and development and exploring new opportunities and partnerships,” he said in a post on his official social media channels on Tuesday night.

He had conducted a working visit earlier in the day to the Gong Kedak Air Base in Terengganu and witnessed the handing over of the Sukhoi Su-30MKM SLEP contract as well as the signing of the memorandum of understanding between ATSC and Universiti Tun Hussein Onn in defence research and innovation.
