Renault has shown resilience navigating the weaker demand for electric vehicles, supply chain disruptions and slump in China sales that have hit the industry.
(Jan 21): Renault SA named Duncan Minto as its new chief financial officer, elevating the executive who has overseen finances at its Alpine sports-car brand.
Minto, who will replace Thierry Piéton effective March 1, has overseen finances at Alpine as it transformed in recent years to focus on electrification, expanding its model lineup and enhancing its presence in motorsport. The unit has seen significant growth even as rivals stumbled.
Alpine’s growth has helped Renault stand out from its competitors, including Stellantis, Volkswagen and BMW, which issued profit warnings last year. Renault has shown resilience navigating the weaker demand for electric vehicles, supply chain disruptions and slump in China sales that have hit the industry.
CEO Luca de Meo has also introduced several new EVs on time in recent months, managing to avoid some of the issues around software that have delayed rival models. Renault is betting on its electric €25,000 (RM115,856.31) R5 city car to bolster sales in the near term, and this year plans to introduce models including an electric version of the 1960s-era 4L economy car and the sub-€35,000 R4.
Minto has been CFO of Alpine since October 2023.
