KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 19): The Supreme 6/58 jackpot from Sports Toto Bhd (KL:SPTOTO) hit an unprecedented RM121.732 million in Saturday’s (Jan 18) evening draw, marking the largest payout in Malaysia’s lottery history.

The record-breaking prize pool was split among winners across three ticket categories, according to Sports Toto Malaysia on its Facebook account.

A Standard Play winner claimed RM34.92 million, while two System Play winners also walked away with RM34.92 million each. Additionally, multiple EZ-Bet winners collectively received RM16.96 million.

The draw was held at 7pm on Saturday on the 13th floor of Berjaya Times Square in Kuala Lumpur.

Punters queued at the Sports Toto outlet at Sri Hartamas, Segambut, KL on Saturday, for the jackpot.

The historic prize, the largest in Sports Toto’s history, surpassed the previous record of RM97.75 million set in 2022, which was shared by winners from Penang and Selangor.

Industry observers and market watchers are now closely monitoring the impact of the historic draw on participation trends and Sports Toto’s ticket sales in the coming months.

Main Market-listed lottery retailer Sports Toto, formerly known as Berjaya Sports Toto Bhd, is 51.15%-controlled by billionaire Tan Sri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun’s flagship conglomerate Berjaya Corp Bhd (KL:BJCORP).

Year to-date, shares of Sports Toto have gained by four sen or 3% to close at RM1.54 on Friday (Jan 17), giving the company a market capitalisation of RM2.08 billion.

A check on AskEdge showed that Sports Toto is currently trading at a price-earnings ratio (PER) of 10.2 times, which is the lowest among its numbers forecast operator (NFO) peers, where the ratio is applicable.

“This PER is at the lower end, compared to its historical valuation in recent years,” it said.

Magnum Bhd (KL:MAGNUM), which operates the 4-Digit (4D) numbers forecast betting and its variation games, is currently trading at a PER of 13.5 times.

Meanwhile, Olympia Industries Bhd (KL:OLYMPIA), which operates number forecasting operations (NFO) in Sabah under the brand name Sabah 88, has been loss-making in recent years, and as a result, does not have a positive PER.

AskEdge also highlighted that Sports Toto’s price-to-net asset value (P/NAV) ratio of two times is the highest among peers, and also below its recent years’ average.

Magnum’s P/NAV stood at 0.8 times, whereas Olympia’s P/NAV was at 0.2 times.
