KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 17): State-owned public transportation operator Prasarana Malaysia Bhd has yet to finalise the tender process for the open payment system for its transportation services, according to Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook.
The minister said that he has been urging Prasarana to expedite the open payment system implementation, but the internal process for the tender has yet to be fulfilled, he said at Prasarana's 2024 report presentation to the media here on Friday.
"The tender has been called, but the bidders are still not satisfied with the evaluation. A limited tender process will be called soon to resolve the tender issues, and after that, I hope it can be awarded by the second quarter of this year,” he said.
Loke noted that once the tender is awarded, it will take approximately 12 months to fully implement the open payment system across Rapid's transportation network.
In March 2024, Loke was quoted as saying that the tender for the open payment system was expected to be concluded in May last year, as the tender process had already commenced.
The open payment system will introduce MyDebit and credit cards as additional payment options at the gantry, in addition to existing payment methods that use Touch 'n Go or tokens.
