LANGKAWI (Jan 16): Media practitioners are encouraged to produce constructive news reports that align with the theme of Malaysia’s 2025 Asean chairmanship, "Inclusivity and Sustainability", reflecting the nation's aspiration to foster a united and prosperous Asean.
The Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said that news reporting, including the initiative to use electric vehicles (EVs) for official Asean conference transportation, demonstrates Malaysia’s commitment to enhancing sustainability.
"I am confident that the media and journalists will provide valuable input to the government and report all the positive and good outcomes from this conference," he said, after visiting the International Media Centre and the Langkawi International Convention Centre (LICC) as the main venue for the Asean Foreign Ministers' (AMM) Retreat on Jan 18 and 19.
On the role of the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) as the official media and coordinator for the International Media Centre for the Asean Summit 2025, Shamsul Azri expressed the appreciation from the government for the efforts made by the national news agency.
"Very good job, I greatly appreciate Bernama's contribution to this conference. Keep up the good work. Thank you from the Government of Malaysia," he said.
Bernama is fully prepared to undertake the significant task of serving as the official media and coordinator for the International Media Centre for the Asean Summit 2025, beginning with the Asean Foreign Ministers' Retreat in Langkawi.
Bernama chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin on Thursday stated that preparations for the retreat have been underway since December 2024 to ensure smooth operations in handling local and international media covering the event.
As the official media, Bernama will also provide comprehensive coverage across all the platforms, including Bernama Wires, Bernama Photo, Bernama TV (Astro 502), Bernama Radio, and Bernama Digital.
"Bernama is proud to have been appointed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for this crucial responsibility. God willing, with our experience, I am confident that Bernama will carry out this duty to the best of its ability," said Nur-ul Afida.
Malaysia officially assumed the chairmanship of the Asean 2025 on Jan 1. Over 300 key meetings and programmes are scheduled to take place across the country throughout the year.
Malaysia has previously chaired Asean in 1977, 1997, 2005, and 2015.
