KUCHING (Jan 13): Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg on Monday revealed that negotiations for the state government’s acquisition of MASwings Sdn Bhd had been finalised.

Speaking to reporters after the Majlis Amanat Perdana Premier Sarawak 2025, he said the signing ceremony for the sale and purchase agreement (SPA) between the Sarawak government and Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) is set to take place in February.

“What I can reveal today is that the [acquisition of] MASwings is settled…the SPA ceremony will most likely be held in Kuching.

"The negotiations are complete, meaning the Sarawak government will take over with the agreed asset valuation between both parties," he said, declining to disclose the new name of the airline.

Abang Johari said the name of the airline had already been decided on, but would only be announced after the SPA ceremony.

Previously, media reports stated that the asset valuation negotiations included ground-handling services at the airports involved.

Among the international destinations targeted by Sarawak following the acquisition of MASwings are Germany, South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, and Thailand.
